Volunteers Needed

APEGS operates primarily by the efforts of many volunteers.  Below is a list of the committees for which volunteers are required. Many of the meetings are conducted by teleconference, minimizing your time commitment. The form below can be printed, completed and faxed into the APEGS office at 306-525-0851. You will also receive this form with your annual dues notice each year.

Please note that, if you volunteer, you may not get on your committee of choice right away.  There may not be a vacancy in that committee right now.  But we will keep your request on file for vacancies occuring in the future.  If you change your mind about which committee you'd like to serve on please let us know.

Listed below are the many committees that help run APEGS.  The two numbers in brackets behind the title lets you know how often, and how long, that committee meets.  For more details on each board or committee click the link to Boards at the end of this section.

University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina - Mentors

The mentor should be able to impart their knowledge of the profession to the student and help the student make career decisions. The student may be looking for help with decisions on a discipline, how to effectively manage their time, or creating networks. The time commitment for this can be very minimal, as little as one hour a month.

NOTE: This information is for the benefit of the Universities.

Mentors for the purpose of experience reporting

Some members-in-training do not have a professional engineer or professional geoscientist working for their company who is able to review work experience reports. This type of mentor meets with the member-in-training as necessary, reviews experience reports and signs off on whether or not the experience is considered acceptable engineering or geoscience work experience as outlined in APEGS Guidelines 11 and 13. The mentor and member-in-training would sign an "Agreement of Understanding" stipulating that the mentor is not taking responsibility for the work, but is reviewing the nature of the work to ensure it is acceptable.

Mentors for international engineering and geoscience graduates

We have had requests from international graduates, normally members-in-training, for mentors within their discipline. The mentor would provide information on a professional working in a Canadian work environment, technical terms used, among other things depending on the previous knowledge and exposure of the mentee. The time commitment for this is up to the mentor depending on their availability.
